Professional Futures: Challenges and Opportunities

Artist Funding Organisations

Sound and Music presented a variety of funding organisations that could be useful to our class post-graduation.

Challenges and Opportunities

PRS is a great opportunity as an artist to distribute there work appropriately as well as be protected. Challenges faced are to avoid copywriting other material without proper declaring there credited title/contribution as legal issues may occur.

Artist funding presents opportunity to receive financial support for a project, Making a living from being an artist can be proven difficult to remain finically secure therefore, discovering artist funding opportunities is a essential part of an artist practice. However the challenges of this is, artist funding isn’t a sustainable outcome as it can be unreliable as there is most likely a high demand and the decision is made out of your hands.

The PRSf scheme is for artist funding and is different from PRS for Music. Only apply for PRS Foundation when you’re ready for a fundable project and have proven a track record of an audio-focused or music-based career.

General Advice

“See as many Gigs/Exhibitions as possible and they require you to say who’s funding the event. This is a great way to discover funding organisations and network”.

I agree with sound and music statement, I like to add I recognise this approach as a form of networking therefore a sustainable way to pursue creative work as well as opportunity to showcase work to intended audiences.
